SPATIAL DISORIENTATION PREVENTION, IDENTIFICATION AND RECTIFICATION TRAINING



Introduction

This course is designed for military pilots. It involves didactics on Spatial Disorientation, discussion of case studies, analysis of SD events and simulation experience in the Spatial Disorientation Trainer. This course also includes didactics and simulations in Unaided and Aided Night Flying.

We recommend that all military pilots attend this course once every 3 years.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of the aviation physiological and cognitive human factors hazards associated with flying that may lead to loss of Spatial Orientation;
  2. Subject matter knowledge through didactics, case studies and videos on Visual and Vestibular illusions;
  3. Comprehensive simulations experience to cover Visual Illusions, Vestibular Illusions and Night Vision training.


Duration

The duration of the course is 2 days.

  1. Physiology of Vision and Visual Illusions
  2. Visual challenges of flying aided at night
  3. Physiology of Vestibular system and Vestibular Illusions
  4. Cognitive Human Factors and Situation Awareness and its impact on Orientation
  5. Night Vision Trainer
  6. Spatial Disorientation Trainer
