NIGHT VISION TRAINING FOR AIRCREW



Introduction

Night flying has its own challenges. Unaided night flying with dark adaptation and aided night flying with visual enhancement devices are both challenging and exposes pilots and aircrew to various visual hazards and illusions. This one day course is designed to address these challenges and reinforced with simulator experiences.

We recommend that all pilot sand aircrew who fly at night attend this course once every 3 years.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. A clear appreciation of the physiology of vision and visual challenges of night flying;
  2. Understanding of various visual illusions related to both unaided and aided night flying;
  3. Personal simulated experience of various night flying problems, challenges and illusions and an enhanced ability to anticipate, recognize and resolve them when they arise.


Duration

The duration of the course is 1 day.

  1. Didactics on physiology of Vision and visual problems in flight
  2. Visual illusions
  3. Challenges of flying aided (NVG, FLIR)
  4. Practical: Night Vision Trainer
  5. Practical: Visual illusions in Spatial Disorientation Trainer
  6. Case studies and videos
