AVIATION MEDICINE AND OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE FOR AIRPORT DOCTORS AND AIRPORT HEALTH WORKERS



Introduction

The practice of medicine in an airport calls for an appreciation of the unique environment in which the aircrew operates and the occupational health hazards encountered by the aircrew and ground crew. This course is ideally positioned for medical doctors working or intending to work in the airport industry. However, other healthcare personnel such as Nurses working in an airport setting may benefit from this course too and may be admitted on a case-by-case basis.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. A clear appreciation of how various medical conditions are best managed in the context of an aviator or a passenger intending to fly;
  2. A working knowledge of basic aviation physiology and cognitive human factors in the context of aviation to gain insight into the flight environment;
  3. An understanding of the various occupational health hazards that aviation industry aircrew and ground personnel are exposed to and how these staff should be managed.


Duration

The duration of the course is 5 days.

  1. Aviation Physiology and Cognitive Human Factors
  2. Incapacitation and 1% Rule
  3. Clinical Aviation Medicine Practice: Cardiology, Eye, ENT, Neurology, Psychiatry, Endocrinology, GIT, Respiratory System, Urology, Orthopedics, HIV, Oncology;
  4. Clinical Occupational Medicine;
  5. Passenger Fitness to Fly considerations.
