AVIATION MEDICINE AND OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE FOR CIVIL AVIATION REGULATORS AND DESIGNATED MEDICAL DOCTORS



Introduction

The practice of medicine in civil aviation industry calls for an appreciation of the unique environment in which the aircrew operates and the occupational health hazards encountered by the aircrew and ground crew. This course is ideally positioned for medical doctors working or intending to work in the civil aviation industry either as regulators or as designated medical examiners.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. A working knowledge of basic aviation physiology and cognitive human factors in the context of aviation to gain insight into the flight environment;
  2. The ability to manage various clinical conditions based on evidence, prognosis and risk of incapacitation;
  3. An understanding of the various occupational health hazards that aviation industry aircrew and ground personnel are exposed to and how these staff should be managed.


Duration

The duration of the course is 5 days.

  1. Aviation Physiology and Cognitive Human Factors
  2. Incapacitation and 1% Rule
  3. Clinical Aviation Medicine Practice: Cardiology, Eye, ENT, Neurology, Psychiatry, Endocrinology, GIT, Respiratory System, Urology, Orthopedics, HIV, Oncology;
  4. Clinical Occupational Medicine;
  5. Managing Air Traffic Controllers.
