HUMAN FACTORS FOR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS



Introduction

The Aviation industry is supported by many Air Traffic Controllers who are responsible for flight safety. Time and again, human error at this level, have led to aircraft incidents and accidents. Human Error can be managed best through education and awareness of all ATC personnel in the areas of Human Factors. This course is recommended for all ATC personnel responsible for keeping civil aviation flying safe.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. An appreciation of human factors considerations;
  2. The ability to anticipate human error and mitigate these;
  3. An understanding of human error issues in civil aviation history through critical evaluation of case studies.


Duration

The duration of the course is 2 days.



Course Content

  1. Basic Cognitive Human Factors: Human Information Processing, Perception, Cognition, Decision Making, Attention, Memory;
  2. Analysis of case studies of human error in civil aviation ATC operations using human factors models;
  3. Managing Stress and Fatigue;
  4. Team work and Total Resources Management;
  5. Occupational Safety and Health aspects of ATC operations.
