HUMAN FACTORS AND CRM FOR AIRCREW



Introduction

This course is designed to provide pilot and non-pilot aircrew trainees a strong foundation in Cognitive Human Factors and Crew Resources Management issues. Students enrolled in flying schools, flying clubs and pilots who have never had indoctrination in this field would find the contents enriching and relevant.



Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant is expected to acquire:

  1. An understanding of the various cognitive human factors issues related to perception, attention, decision making and understand why loss of situation awareness and human error occurs in aviation and how to prevent them from compromising flight safety;
  2. Working knowledge on how to manage self imposed stressors, life stress event, work stress, fatigue, jet lag;
  3. Case studies and role play on CRM case studies.


Duration

The duration of the course is 2 days for Indoctrination and 1 day for Refresher.



Course Content

  1. Cognitive Human Factors: Human Information Processing, Perception, Attention, Decision Making, Crew Resources Management; Situation Awareness; Human Error in Aviation; Human Factors models; Case Studies;
  2. Self-imposed Stress: Nutrition, Alcohol, Smoking, Fatigue, Work Stress
  3. Team Work and CRM, Communication Human Factors, case studies
